Using a zip foot!

purseI had the second week of my sewing class at The Bowery on Monday, where I finished my first project – a zip up purse!! The outer and lining are different colours and it has a fully functioning zip, which opens AND closes (you can probably tell I’m quite excited about the zip!). I used fabric remnants so it ended up being a little bit wonky (plus being the first time using a zip foot on the sewing machine), but I’m looking forward to making my own with my ever growing fabric collection. I also learned a lot more about materials and fabric patterns, so I now know the different between weft and warp and what a selvedge edge is, which is one step on the path to becoming a half decent seamstress! I’m not sure what I’ll do for my next project in the class, but I’ll have to decide before the weekend, so I can get enough fabric to take with me.open purse Also, if you’re reading this Mum, you’re getting this purse for Christmas!

I also got some new furniture for Craft Corner this week, so I took the opportunity to give it a good sort and tidy, so I feel like a much more organised crafter. Despite being the name of this blog, the original Craft Corner is the area in my bedroom where I keep my sewing machine and craft supplies. It started off as a desk in the corner of the bedroom and has now expanded to include a shelf and a side unit (and a blog…), much to my boyfriend’s dismay. I’m hoping for my own crafting room one day, but I’m not too sure he’d be too happy about that…

I’m working at the moment on a really nice project but it’s for a present, so I’ll be able to post more about that on Saturday. If you look closely at the picture, there’s a clue on the shelf!
